WhatsApp will stop working on these older smartphones in 2017

It has been a 'tough' decision.

Messaging app WhatsApp will stop working on millions of older smartphones that are unable to run the new features they are planning.

The company made the announcement on Friday, insisting out-dated models cannot keep up with their advancing technology.

These are the phones affected from the beginning of 2017:

  • Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
  • Windows Phone 7
  • iPhone 3GS/iOS 6

Meanwhile, these platforms won’t be able to host WhatsApp from June 2017:

  • BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10
  • Nokia S40
  • Nokia Symbian S60

WhatsApp, which recently turned seven years old, insist it was a ‘tough decision’ to withdraw its service from these older phones.

The company recommends switching to a newer phone to keep using its service.
