Some red cards are contentious, causing fierce debate for days on end after the fact.
This is not one of those red cards.
Sol Bamba has made an impact since joining Cardiff City after his release by Leeds United, scoring on his debut and helping the Bluebirds keep their fight against relegation alive.
And ‘fight’ was certainly the operative word during the Ivorian’s performance against Ipswich Town.
In the second half at Portman Road, with the scores level at 1-1, Bamba was shown the red card, and it wasn’t immediately clear what brought about the dismissal.

But it soon emerged that it was not just one offence, but a multitude of offences that brought about the decision.
RED CARD! Sol Bamba is sent off as he totally loses his head and tries to fight numerous people in the ground, including the fourth official

It feels like Cardiff’s Twitter account left out a few pertinent details.

People were quick to agree that this is not the sort of thing anyone wants to see on a football pitch.
Hang on…
Sol Bamba pushed over his own physio, nutted the fourth official and tried to land a right hook on Neil Warnock. My hero.

Sol Bamba has just been send off for Cardiff for pushing the referee. He then proceeded to push Warnock. Best defender in the league? #lufc

It’s the last thing Cardiff boss Neil Warnock will have wanted to see, at the very least.
The Welsh club began the afternoon in the bottom three, where they remain after the 1-1 draw, and it feels like they will be without Bamba for a very long time indeed.
