It’s match day on Merseyside as Everton host Liverpool on Monday Night Football tonight.
The Reds will make the short journey across Stanley Park to take on the Toffees at Goodison and the whole city will be watching.
Historically, Liverpool have made the better fist of hoovering up trophies, and have the better record in derby matches against the Blues (74 wins to Everton’s 57), but does that mean they’ve always had the better players?

He leaves out Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman and, most controversially, Luis Suarez from his team, which has a fair balance of Liverpool and Everton players.
Pepe Reina, the former Liverpool goalkeeper, is selected. Seamus Coleman, Sami Hyypia, Jamie Carragher and Leighton Baines make-up the Merseyside defence.
In midfield, Tim Cahill is the only former Everton player selected.
The Australian is selected alongside Xabi Alonso, Steven Gerrard and err, John Arne Riise, the former Liverpool left-back.
Up-front, Duncan Ferguson and Fernando Torres are selected, meaning there’s no room for Suarez.
Here’s the full combined XI – has he got it right?
