Someone has a very a green sense of humour.
Hollywood is today having “a 420 moment” after the iconic sign that the town has become famous for was cheekily altered over night to read ‘Hollyweed’.
Los Angeles police are said to be investigating but it’s thought the change is a reference to a new Californian law that makes recreational marijuana legal.
Last year the state voted to enforce the new law (number 420) which legalises the recreational use of the drug for adults.
The new law came into force today.

Stephen Fry also spotted the change and tweeted a picture to his millions of followers with the message “Hippy New Year”.
Some prankster tweaked the #HollywoodSign overnight (this is not an adulterated pic). Hippy New Year everyone. pic.twitter.com/XpiiuDa92K

Whoever the pranksters are they had their work cut out changing the letters – each one is 30 feet long at the base and stands four stories high.
It’s also not the first time it’s been done: back in 1976 the sign was modified with curtains to also read ‘Hollyweed’ in celebration of a change in the law regarding possession of marijuana.
