The UFC’s newest matchmaker has set his stall out with novel way of dealing with MMA trolls

There will be a new face at UFC weigh-ins from now on.

Following the retirement of long-time UFC matchmaker Joe Silva last week, former Legacy FC owner and president Mick Maynard has joined the set-up so as to lighten the workload for Sean Shelby.

Maynard started in his role at the turn of the year and will book fights in the men’s flyweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions in his capacity as Vice President of Talent Relations.

One of his first orders of business was putting together the latest 185lbs addition to UFC 208, as Maynard paired up top contender Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza with Tim Boetsch.

A matchmaker’s job is not easy and flak is almost guaranteed, regardless of the match-up, but Maynard has made it very clear that he’s not willing to shy away from trolls.

A number of critics ridiculed the ‘Jacare’ vs. Boetsch fight simply due to the disparity between the two in the official UFC rankings.

Souza is ranked third in the UFC’s middleweight division while his opponent for the February 11 card is placed significantly lower down, at fourteenth.

Over the years we’ve seen far more egregious and unexpected match-ups but due to the fact that Maynard is new to his role, mouthy fight fans let him know what they thought of his work.

Maynard wasted absolutely no time in cutting through the online bullsh*t that we’re all growing tired of.

The Texas native issued a no-nonsense call-out to all of his trolls, welcoming them to show up at his address so they could prove how courageous they were in person, rather than simply hide behind their online personas.

We for one welcome the lack of f**ks given by the UFC’s newest employee and look forward to seeing him hang around for years to come.
