This is it, kids. This. Is. It.
For far too long, English football fans have had to marvel at the footballing brilliance of Lionel Messi from the other side of the continent. With he and his Barcelona teammates hoovering up every trophy in sight, we’d come to accept that not even the honour of playing in The Greatest League In The World™ would be enough to tempt the Argentine to this grey-skied, rain-beaten little island of ours.
But think again, folks. Think again.
After a decade full of wild Messi-to-the-Premier-League transfer bullshit, it now seems an absolute certainty that Barca’s number ten will be gracing the English top flight next season… Or at least that’s probably how someone will interpret the video he’s recently posted to his Instagram.
In it, we see the multi-Ballon d’Or winner’s one-year-old son, Mateo, stumbling around in front of an IMAX-sized television. After a matter of seconds, it becomes clear that young Mateo is in fact learning how to speak English. Bless.

In an age where shit like this is ridiculously over-analysed for hidden meanings, this is quite clearly Lionel’s way of saying he’s had enough of life at Camp Nou and is looking ahead towards a future in England. We can probably go even further with it and say that the colour of young Mateo’s jumper suggests that his old man favours a move to Chelsea, too.
We look forward to people reading this and taking it completely seriously.
