Bradley Lowery’s story is one that has united football fans up and down the country.
Having come to their attention when on mascot duty for his beloved Sunderland, many have helped pledge thousands of pounds to help the terminally ill five-year-old receive life-extending treatment.
Bradley has also struck up a friendship with his hero Jermain Defoe in recent months. Last week, the 34-year-old striker and some of his Sunderland teammates paid him a visit in hospital. Images of Bradley falling asleep in Defoe’s arms were spread far and wide after the visit, with many praising the former Tottenham star for spending time with the youngster.
Asked about his trip to see Bradley, Defoe has spoken of his admiration for the courageous little boy.
“I get strength from him to be honest,” Defoe is seen saying in the video below.
“I can talk about football all day but some things are difficult to talk about.
“To sit there and see a little kid say certain things about ‘when I grow up I want to this and I want to do that’ when we’re not too sure what’s going to happen, it’s really difficult. I think about him every night.
“An amazing young man. In my prayers every night.”
