Anyone who grew up watching the early years of the Premier League will have a soft spot for Tony Yeboah.
The Ghanaian striker made a huge impression during his time at Leeds United, scoring 24 goals in just over two seasons at Elland Road, and it was the quality of the finishes that really caught the eye.
But it turns out there was an unlikely secret to Yeboah’s success…Yorkshire puddings.
“I had no idea what they were, but I loved them,” Yeboah told the Yorkshire Post.
“I used to say that it was the Yorkshire puddings that gave me the strength to score goals.”
So much for all the nutritionists and dieticians used by top-level clubs these days – it’s all about the carbs.
If Richard Keys had known about the secret back then, he’d no doubt have said “It was just batter”.
