New UFC Embedded ends on poignant note as a familiar face returns

It's been a while.

It’s been just over 1200 days since Georges St-Pierre pulled a UFC glove over his knuckles.

In case you somehow missed it, the welterweight great is set to return to the Octagon this year after a lengthy contract dispute with the UFC came to an end with a deal agreed which would see St-Pierre make his comeback in an unfamiliar weight class.

St-Pierre will fight for the UFC middleweight title at some stage in the second half of 2017 and champion Michael Bisping is thrilled to have the biggest payday of his storied career perched on the horizon.

“We’ll believe it when we see it,” plenty of critics said of St-Pierre’s return.

Well believe it because ‘Rush’ played a poignant role in the latest edition of UFC Embedded, as he returned to take his promotional shots in Las Vegas.

St-Pierre issued a good luck message to Khabib Nurmagomedov, who fights for the interim lightweight title, before setting foot in the T-Mobile Arena in one of the best endings to an Embedded ever.

“Back into the jungle!” St-Pierre said.

And given the murderer’s row at 170lbs and 185lbs, there’s no better way to describe it.
