Having masterminded the most embarrassing defeat in the history of English football, it’s perhaps a surprise to learn that Roy Hodgson isn’t quite back in the world of management yet.
He does have himself a new job, though. Purely by coincidence, he’s followed his stint as Three Lions manager by travelling to the *complete opposite end of the planet*, taking a job with Manchester City’s sister club, Melbourne City.
In his new role, Hodgson will mentor the club’s coaches so that one day they might perhaps reach the level of football management where they can guide a team to a painful defeat against the underdogs, instantly becoming a laughing stock in the process.
Hodgson isn’t being considered as the club’s next permanent manager, with Michael Valkanis currently acting as the club’s caretaker boss following John van ‘t Schip’s departure in January.
The arrangement, which will see Hodgson take the new role, came into being through his friendship with City Football Group executive officer, Brian Marwood.
