This could end up being a pivotal week in the race for the top four in the Premier League.
Chelsea are in a very strong position to win the league, and are almost certain to finish in the top four.
While two wins away from home for Tottenham Hotspur in their last two games, against Burnley and Swansea City respectively, cemented their hold over second place, and showed that they’ll be ready to take advantage if Chelsea slip-up.
Manchester United dropped four points in their games against West Brom and Everton, and slipped back down to sixth position.
Two wins from those home games would have put Jose Mourinho’s side level on points with Manchester City, and with a game in hand.
But it’s looking increasingly likely that United will need to win the Europa League to secure a place in the Champions League next season.
While Arsenal fans are trying to come to terms with potentially missing out on the top four, and Spurs finishing above them for the first time in 22 years.
Here’s the Premier League table after Wednesday’s fixtures.
And both Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher both expect the table to remain as it is.
According to Neville, Arsenal and his former team Manchester United will miss out, and Spurs won’t be able to catch Chelsea at the top of the table.
“I think it will be the current top four and Man United and Arsenal will miss out,” Neville told Sky Sports.
So many of the United games, they should have won and could have won…Â They just haven’t got that killer instinct to kill teams off.
“At this moment in time, they make it so difficult for themselves to get in the top four. If you like at the fixtures they’ve got, it is so tough. I think too many mistakes have been made.”
While Carragher agreed with his colleague, and reckons the top four will remain as it currently is. Meaning Arsenal and United will miss out.
“Liverpool have an advantage of no European football but I feel if Liverpool and Tottenham get into the top four they have had a great season because they don’t have the budget that other sides maybe more going for the title have,” Carragher said.
“I think, with the position they’re in, Liverpool would be really disappointed if they didn’t make it and I think it would be a big blow if they don’t finish in the top four.”
