Yes, of course he was joking.
After moving to Montreal Impact after his second spell at Chelsea came to an end, Didier Drogba will now become a player / co-owner at Phoenix Rising in the US. The Arizona-based club play in the league below Major League Soccer, but the Ivorian has plans to bring them into North America’s top tier.
Having only just embarked on the latest chapter in his career, Drogba tweeted his new club to inform them that he intended to rejoin Chelsea at the end of May in a bid to help them beat Arsenal in the FA Cup final.
Arsene Wenger’s side saw off Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, with Alexis Sanchez’s extra-time goal deciding a 2-1 victory for the club. On Saturday, Chelsea had overcome Tottenham in a 4-2 victory.
‘Dear Phoenix Rising,’ Drogba tweeted. ‘I’ll be off on loan with Chelsea for two days 26/27th of May, just to make it 17/17 against #afc’
Just to make absolutely sure nobody took it seriously, he went and threw in a #banter hashtag…
