Coronation Street viewers have been up-in-arms over the ongoing grooming storyline with Bethany Platt.
The controversial plot has been a major point of discussion online for weeks now and the latest twist has left many fans angry.
It was revealed last night that one of Bethany’s abusers, Neil Clifton, is in fact a police officer – news which has caused a major stir online.
Many fans are arguing that real-life victims might be impacted by the development and have taken to social media to share their concern.
“Come on Corrie, enough is enough is enough. I know you’re trying to highlight the situation but come on,” one viewer wrote on Facebook.
“If people who are watching this may be going through the same thing, what are they supposed to think? That you’re not even safe going to the police station?”
The criticism has lead to Corrie bosses ensuring fans that Bethany’s abusers will be brought to justice.
The production team have been open about the amount of precautions they have put in place to deal with such a sensitive issue, including working with child protections charities and the Greater Manchester Police.
