You choose what happens next as Netflix release interactive shows

Good idea?

The possibilities are potentially endless.

This week Netflix announced that they are wandering into the field of interactive storytelling.

Anyone who may remember those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books from years back will probably be interested to see how this might work out.

While there’s no plans yet to give us the choice of which person Frank Underwood will seduce with his power, or which of the Stranger Things kids will be next to follow Barbara off this mortal coil.

At the moment, the interactive element is only available on specific kids shows, such as Puss in Boots: Trapped in an Epic Tale (available now), Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile (available from July 14), and Stretch Armstrong: The Breakout (available 2018).

The shows will be interactive-capable on most TVs and iOS devices.

Similar projects had been attempted before – with viewers of Hawaii Five-O able to choose the ending to a season finale in real time back in 2013, for example – but none on this particular scale.

For the kids watching, it does mean different variations on the shows that they’re enjoying, which will boost just how much they’ll want to watch them over and over again.

For the adults accompanying, they must surely be looking forward to the potential for their favourite Netflix shows. Watch this space.
