Barry Norman has passed away, aged 83.
The report came in via the BBC, who stated that the legendary film critic’s family announced his passing.
In a statement from his daughters Samantha and Emma, they called him ‘remarkable’ and added: ‘He had a great life, a wonderful marriage and an enviable career.’
Norman was perhaps best known as the host of TV movie show “Film…” on BBC One, which he served on from 1972 to 1998.
He was also famed for the catchphrase “… and why not?” but the actual source of the saying came from his puppet doppleganger on the 1980s comedy show Splitting Image.
However, Norman enjoyed the phrase so much that he adopted it himself, and even used it as the title of his autobiography.
