The Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel looks intense as hell

Paul Moore

Leatherface is back.

There are certain moments in horror history that will always stay with film fans.

For example, who didn’t constantly rewind the VHS (yes, VHS) during the famous decapitation scene in The Omen? Can you remember having the s**t scared out of you by the chestburster scene in Alien, or the first appearance of the demonic Pazuzu in The Exorcist?

Well, horror fans might add the memorable entrance that Leatherface made in Tobe Hooper’s iconic horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, to that horrific list.

The blunt force that he used to smack Kirk over the head with a hammer was memorable, but that was just a taste of what’s in store.

It’s likely that nothing else can match the visceral horror that unfolded when Leatherface catches Pam and impales her on a meathook before making her watch as he butchers Kirk with a chainsaw.

Sequels of various quality have followed, but Livide directors Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo look like they’ve gone back to the roots of the character in the upcoming prequel.

The latest film in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre saga will tell the story of four escaped mental inmates – Jessica Madsen, Sam Coleman, Sam Strike, and James Bloor- who kidnap a young nurse (Vanessa Grasse) and take her on a brutal and bloody road trip.

In pursuit are Finn Jones and Stephen Dorff , two Texas Rangers that are on a mission of revenge against the teenager who ultimately becomes Leatherface.

The Conjuring‘s Lili Taylor also stars as one of the most horrifying and memorable characters from the 1974 original, the cannibalistic matriarch, Verna Sawyer.

Bloody Disgusting are reporting that Leatherface will be released exclusively on DirecTV on September 21, 2017, with a limited theatrical run and full release on October 20, 2017.

We’re being promised “a brutal and nihilistic road movie,” and from the look of these first images, that’s what we’re getting.
