Season 8 may consist of six movie-long episodes. Holy Mother of Dragons!
When it comes to Game of Thrones, we’re very much against the established thinking that most Houses adhere to.
See, we’re not interested in glory for the sake of one dynasty because much like Jon Snow, we understand that everyone must bide together as The Long Night approaches. Well, this news regarding the length of the episodes in Season 8 should please and united everyone together.
Just like us, we’re certain that you’re all absolutely pumped for the premiere of Season 7, and while there might be fewer episodes in the final two seasons, we already know that audiences are going to be treated to the longest episodes in Game of Thrones history.
In case you haven’t heard, here’s the official running time of every episode in Season 7.
Keep reading though because the news could be about to get even better regarding Season 8.
- Episode 1: 59 minutes.
- Episode 2: 59 minutes.
- Episode 3: 63 minutes.
- Episode 4: 50 minutes.
- Episode 5: 59 minutes.
- Episode 6: 71 minutes.
- Episode 7: 81 minutes.
As stated previously, Con of Thrones is currently underway and one of the guest speakers at the event was Paula Fairfield, sound designer on Game of Thrones.
In a very interesting discussion, Fairfield said that the scene in which Jon Snow fights the White Walkers beyond The Wall will make Hardhome look like “child’s play.”
Wow, given that those 20 minutes at Hardhome are arguably the finest action in Game of Thrones, that’s some statement.

During her panel, Fairfield also stated that the show’s creators might make all six episodes of Season 8 feature-length.
Essentially, this means that every episode in the final season of Game of Thrones will be as long as a film!
How amazing would that be?

Granted, nothing official has been approved just yet – Benioff and Weiss are probably only focused on Season 7 at the minute – but with the end of the show in sight, this would be very welcome news for Game of Thrones fans.
If this actually happens, our estimate would put the entire duration of Season 8 at about eight or nine hours long. That’s pretty much the duration of a full season of Game of Thrones, even if there are only six episodes in it.
Please God, both old and new, make this happen!
