Wimbledon is trying to stop people singing “Oh Jeremy Corbyn”

“No political slogans!”

Organisers have issued a “No political slogans!” warning.

Forget Despacito or Ed Sheeran, “Oh Jeremy Corbyn has arguably become the song of the summer. The chant of the Labour leader’s name to The White Stripe’s Steven Nation Army has rattled around Glastonbury and music festivals since the General Election.

Wimbledon, another great British summer institution, starts this week – and while the tennis tournament is nowhere near as rowdy as Glasto, you wouldn’t be surprised to see it show up there. However, according to The Telegraph, the All England Lawn Tennis Club are  taking steps to make sure that doesn’t happen.

A warning stating “No political slogans!” will be on display on the way in, and the official rules for spectators ban “any objects or clothing bearing political statements”. These are of course rules preventing any sort of political messaging, though the odds of anyone starting a “Oh Theresa May” chant are somewhat less likely.

Any sort of crowd noise during play is also frowned upon in tennis anyway.

An AELTC spokeswoman told The Telegraph:

We wouldn’t want people to use this kind of event as a platform for their specific views or causes.
