Funny how?
It was rumoured, speculated and hoped by film fans everywhere, but now the news is official.
Joe Pesci will be reuniting with Martin Scorsese for his next film as he joins Al Pacino (whose still in final negotiations) and Robert De Niro in Scorsese’s next gangster drama, an examination of Jimmy Hoffa’s disappearance in The Irishman.
Given the fact that Pesci has been very selective about starring in Hollywood features, his addition is a massive coup for the film that begins shooting next month in and around New York.
You would think that a director as talented and beloved as Martin Scorsese has acting talent bending over backwards for a role, not Pesci though. The star of Home Alone and Casino had turned down the role on numerous occasions but we’re delighted that he finally said yes.
In the film, he portrays Russell Bufalino, a Mafia boss that’s suspected of having a role in Hoffa’s disappearance.
The Irishman is based on on the deathbed confession of Frank ‘The Irishman” Sheeran, a hit man that claimed to tell the real story of the disappearance of former Mafia boss Hoffa.
With Pesci on board, it will be the third time that he’s directed by Scorsese and given the talent that’s involved with this production, it has gone straight to the top of out ‘must watch’ list.
We’re practically laughing at this news, then again… “I mean, funny like I’m a clown? I amuse you? I make you laugh? I’m here to fuckin’ amuse you? How the fuck am I funny? What the fuck is so funny about me? Tell me. Tell me what’s funny.”
