‘Can Liverpool win the Premier League this season?’
In truth, it’s the kind of question you’d expect their manager to face at least a few times ahead of a new season.
Sure enough, as Jürgen Klopp faced questions from reporters during a press conference over in Hong Kong, he was asked such a question by the BBC’s Ian Stringer.
“I think the rules are: all teams are allowed to win the Premier League, right?” Klopp grinned.
“Obviously it seems to be possible.”
“What gives you that kind of confidence that you believe you can?” asked Stringer.
“The rules,” Klopp replied. “It’s possible. I thought the BBC is the most serious broadcaster of all… did you come from another?”
Slightly harsh, Jürgen.

Liverpool XIs faced Tranmere Rovers and Wigan Athletic before flying out to Hong Kong, where they will face Crystal Palace in the Asia Trophy tomorrow. After a second game – either a final of third-place playoff against West Brom or Leicester – they will return to Europe to continue their preseason with friendly against Hertha Berlin in the German capital.
An appearance in Munich’s Allianz Cup then follows in early August and then a game against Athletic Bilbao in Dublin.
