Watch: American hurdler impresses viewers with unusual pre-race intro

Magic...

Simon Lloyd

American athlete Devon Allen can consider himself unfortunate this week.

Competing in the World Athletics championships in London, he narrowly missed out on a place in the 110m hurdles final by 0.003 seconds.

But that’s not to say Devon didn’t leave his mark…

Ahead of his semi-final, the camera briefly trained on the 22-year-old, introducing him to those watching at home and on the big screens in the London Stadium.

Now, it’s not uncommon for athletes to use pre-match introductions such as these as an opportunity to show spectators a little bit of their personality. Some might just smile or wave; others might go full Yohan Blake and start pretending to be a ‘beast’.

This said, we can safely say we’ve never seen an athlete do this before…

Yep, for reasons unknown, Allen saw fit to perform that cut-off finger trick you used to do with your mates in primary school, much to the delight of many of those watching.

The tweet above attracted plenty of attention, eventually reaching the man himself, who joked he might have a career in magic.
