Psyche!
Lionel Messi may be widely acknowledged as the best footballer in the history of the game everBarc, but none of his infinite skills or technical prowess could compete with some good old-fashioned shithousery on Wednesday night at the Bernabeu.
Barcelona were playing despised El Clasico rivals Real Madrid in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup, and not having the best time of it. In the end they slumped to a 2-0 defeat on the night to make 5-1 to Los Blancos on aggregate.
As is always the case when these two giants of the game clash, the overall war was punctuated by a number of individual battles and inevitable flash points. But in the area of pettiness and all round scoundrelry, no one touches Sergio Ramos.
The Real man has made a career out of stylish defending, important late goals, and being a premium wind-up merchant. Against Barca he was on top of the game, and a simple action left poor Messi fuming like a bearded man-child.
In the 38th minute, already losing 2-0 in the night and 5-1 on aggregate, the Argentine genius was desperate to make amends in some way, for pride more than an unlikely comeback. So he was desperate to grab hold of the ball.
Unfortunately for him, they were in the hands of a certain Senor S.Ramos, who played him like a fiddle, performing the old ‘You want it? Here you go. Whoops! No you don’t!’ act to perfection. Messi was left grasping at air, whilst effing and jeffing at the back of Ramos’ head.
Surely the viewing public were outraged by this act of ultimate disrespect to a living legend? Nah, they ruddy loved it…
