Liverpool raced into a 5-1 aggregate lead with little over 20 minutes played of their Champions League qualifier against Hoffenheim on Wednesday night.
Emre Çan’s deflected opener was followed by a second from Mo Salah eight minutes later, the Egyptian tapping home the rebound after Georginio Wijnaldum’s effort had struck a post. Three minutes later, Çan added Liverpool’s third – the best of the lot.
Wijnaldum was again involved, playing a ball down the left for Sadio Mane. As the Senegalese forward cut into the Hoffenheim area, he back-heeled the ball to an overlapping Roberto Firmino whose lofted cross was volleyed home by Çan at the far post.
It was a beautiful goal, and clearly one which excited Jürgen Klopp.
As the videos and tweets below show, the German responds by punching the air before turning to face Anfield’s Main Stand and shouting “That’s football!”
