Romelu Lukaku was not a fan of his marker or the Greek supporters on Sunday night

That explains the celebration then

Romelu Lukaku just can’t stop scoring.

The powerful centre-forward has already scored three goals since his summer move to Manchester United went through and he’s carried that form in front of goal into the international break.

Lukaku scored a hat-trick against Gibraltar on Thursday and netted the winner against Greece on Sunday, guaranteeing Belgium qualification to next year’s World Cup in the process.

And he certainly enjoyed the latter goal, as he got the better of his marker and headed home the decider just 15 minutes from time.

“The defender was irritating. Both verbally and physically. But I don’t care. I won and he lost,” Lukaku told Belgian newspaper DH after the game.

The 24-year-old was clearly wound up and he celebrated raucously, cupping his ears and taunting the supporters in attendance at the Karaiskaki Stadium after securing the victory.

“Because they were also irritating me,” Lukaku said, explaining his celebration.

“I had lasers in my eyes, but I expected it. What is the most fun in football is to win matches that take place under such conditions.

“I first prayed on my knees and thanked God for everything he did for my team and for me, and then I called my mum. It’s better to celebrate this qualification modestly rather than euphorically, as if we were world champions.”
