One of the greatest villains in film history is getting their own TV show

Paul Moore

Not sure about this one.

Have you ever asked your mates who they think is the greatest villain in film history? If so, we imagine that the usual names are probably on their list but even the most evil, sinister and cold villains have some degree of humanity and warmth.

For example, Darth Vader was the biggest badass in the galaxy, but he still loved his son and turned away from the Dark Side of the Force.

Hannibal Lecter ate people in Silence of the Lambs, but yet there’s still something oddly charismatic about Anthony Hopkins’ performance.

Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker was so good that you were probably rooting for him to beat Batman in The Dark Knight, Before turning into a criminal tyrant, Michael Corleone had moments of humanity in The Godfather trilogy and who doesn’t want to see Freddy Krueger kill some annoying teenagers?

This being said, one villainous character manages to beat them all to the title of best baddie, Nurse Ratched from the absolutely brilliant One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

If you’ve never seen the Oscar-winning movie the you need to fix that straight away because it’s easily one of the greatest films ever made. It also features Jack Nicholson’s greatest ever performance, we’re not saying that lightly.

The story revolves around a criminal named McMurphy (Nicholson) that pleads insanity after getting into trouble with the law. After being committed to a mental institution, he rebels against the oppressive and tyrannical nurse Ratched.

We’re not going to spoil it for you but with five Oscars to its record – including Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay and the awards for Best Actor and Actress – it’s a bona fide classic.

Ryan Murphy, creator of  American Horror Story and Glee, will direct the first episode of Nurse Ratched’s origin story that begins in 1947.

The series will follow her journey and evolution from nurse to monster as she rises up the ranks in the mental health care system.

Sarah Paulson will star in the leading role and Netflix have won the rights to broadcast the 18-episode series.
