“This is nuts.”
From chatting with Oscar-winning actors to reuniting a girl with her long-lost daughter, The One Show on BBC is nothing but eclectic.
Two shows are ever going to be the same but given the diverse range of topics that the show discusses, its format might appear to be a bit odd to anyone that’s not from the UK and Ireland.
Comedy legend Mel Brooks is just one of these people.
The 91-year-old stopped by The One Show yesterday to promote a new musical based on his film Young Frankenstein and his appearance was absolute gold.
The director of Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs was absolutely baffled by the fact that the show fluctuates between lighthearted celebrity chit-chat and heartbreaking tales of woe and grief.
As hosts Alex Jones and Matt Baker introduced a segment in which long-lost relatives were reunited, Brooks said: “What a crazy show this is.”
To be fair, he hit the nail on the head.
“Are we allowed to segue to happiness? You’ve got to tell me when ‘happy’, when ‘sad'”, he said to the hosts.
Russell Crowe did his best to explain just how random The One Show is by saying: “This is kind of like the sponsors break, they have to do something serious, and they’ll be back… shortly.
To be honest, when Mel Brooks finds something surreal, you better believe it is! You have to love how he just cuts through the crap here and calls a spade a spade.
To be fair, the producers/talent at The One Show have taken Brooks’ remarks in good humour.
This is great.
BOOM! @MelBrooks TOTALLY gets #theoneshow 🙌 #legend You're ALWAYS welcome on the green sofas Mel 😊 @BBCOne pic.twitter.com/BvvydMPhEJ
