It looks like Conor McGregor’s demand to the UFC’s new owners has fallen on deaf ears.
After he turned Eddie Alvarez’s granite chin to rubble and became the first fighter to simultaneously hold two belts in separate UFC divisions, Conor McGregor demanded equity.
While he has yet to get any form of ownership, for his professional boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather, he received co-promoter status. This extra cheque was something that really struck a chord with ‘the Notorious,’ and now he is looking for the same thing for his UFC return, as he explained on the Late Late Show.
“We’re in negotiation stage. A new deal is being talked about. Things that would interest me are longevity, equity in the comapny, to be a part of the organisation as a whole, postfight. I was a promoter for the Mayweather fight. I was on promoter money and fight money, which is the first time I was on that.”
When asked about the possibility of granting McGregor this desire at the UFC 217 pre-fight press conference, Dana White gave what most people would class as a non-answer before swiftly wrapping the presser up.

Uncle Dana was asked the same question during a recent interview with Bett Okamoto of ESPN and this time, he was more clear with his response.
“Listen, we’re not looking for any co-promoters with the UFC, but we’ve always got a done deal with Conor.”
“When you look at Conor McGregor and his value that he brings, he’s incredible, the guy’s a global superstar. You can say whatever you want about his talking, but he always backs it up. He will literally fight anybody, anywhere, anytime. So if anybody deserves the money, it’s Conor. We’ve always dealt well together from day one up until today and we’ll get a deal done.”
Here’s hoping we don’t see another ‘thanks for the cheese’ tweet going viral anytime soon. He wants to fight again multiple times, here’s hoping those bouts come against the cream of the UFC’s crop.
