Will Ferrell shared an early plot idea for Step Brothers 2 and it’s fantastic

Paul Moore

You can see Brennan and Dale doing this.

Some might accuse Brennan and Dale of being lazy in Adam McKay’s brilliant comedy Step Brothers, but nothing is farther from the truth.

After all, they started their own company (Prestige Worldwide), created the best music video of all time with Boats ‘n Hoes, found time to do karate in the garage and they even did some home decorating when they built those bunk-beds that gave them so much room for activities.

Oh yeah, we almost forget the fact that they hosted the most influential social gathering in the history of cinema. It’s the f**king Catalina wine mixer!

In our opinion, these two men deserve an early retirement and lucky for them, that’s one of the directions that Step Brothers 2 could take if a sequel happens.

Chatting with the New York Daily News, Ferrell mentioned there was something he and Adam McKay had considered for a sequel to the beloved cult-classic.

“We talked about Step Brothers and then Adam and I got sidetracked with other things. We had a whole story where John (C. Reilly) and I follow our parents to live in a retirement community and try to convince them that we earned the right to retire as well,” he said.

To be honest, this would perfectly fit into Dale’s entitled worldview because after all, he does live in “a house of learned doctors.” Here’s hoping that Dale gets to keep his drumset and that the lads are still allowed to “go on riverboat gambling trips, and we make our own beef jerky.”

Regarding the idea of making a sequel, Ferrell was somewhat coy and said: “The sequel thing is so funny because, we decided obviously to go down the road with Anchorman, and we made what I thought was a really great sequel, really funny. The entertainment media and fans beg you, and beg you, and beg you for sequels, and then you make it and you definitely have a fraction that’s like, ‘Well, not as good as the first one.’ So I guess it’s a catch-22. It’s a nice catch-22, because people love the movies in the first place.”

This being said, the star of Elf and has made a few sequels before –  Daddy’s Home 2, Anchorman 2, Zoolander 2 all spring to mind – so we’re still holding onto hope that Nighthawk and Dragon will be back together.

Ferrell has previously said that talks about a sequel have happened so we’ve our fingers crossed.

If you’re a fan of John C.Reilly and Ferrell, you’ll be delighted to know that they have another new comedy in the pipeline, Holmes and Watson, which is due out November 9, 2018.
