Cillian Murphy would ‘absolutely’ do another season of Peaky Blinders and a film

Paul Moore

The superb show is expected to end at Season 5 but it could go on. Even more Peaky Blinders!

At present, we’re as excited as a punter at Epsom on Derby Day because Season 4 of Peaky Blinders is approaching. With every day that passes, we’re getting more and more information about Steven Knight’s new season and while we’re going to remain spoiler free throughout, the Peaky Blinders creator has always been consistent about one thing – his vision for ending the show.

Knight previously said that he was open to the idea of going beyond five seasons, but this appeared to be his limit.”Never say never, but we feel that series five may be the last. We don’t know for sure. Peaky is one of those things everybody loves, and the response has been so magnificent on both sides of the Atlantic.  I have got the end in my mind; whether that happens at the end of five is the question.”

The talented director and screenwriter has previously spoken about his vision for how he sees the TV show ending. “I want it to end when the first air raid siren sounds in Birmingham. It is a story of a family between two world wars. It begins in 1919 when they have just come back from the war and the family’s journey is towards legitimacy and respectability and to leave their past behind. The big question of the whole series is this: Is that possible?” he said.

Well, it appears that Cillian Murphy is very open to the idea of making the sixth season of Peaky Blinders and a potential film on one condition, the writing needs to remain consistent and strong.

In a previous interview with Esquire, the Irish actor openly discussed the idea of making a Peaky Blinders film by saying: “I think Steve [Knight] has some ideas. You’d have to be careful, but I’d be curious to do it” and the latest comments from the star of 28 Days Later and The Dark Knight trilogy will be music to the ears of Peaky Blinders fans.

In an interview with Deadline, Murphy spoke candidly about the idea of making a sixth season and a film: ““Listen, you know Steve has so many ideas, he’s so inventive, I wouldn’t be surprised. For me, I’ve always said as long as the writing stays as good as it is, I’m around.”

Steven Knight added: “We are also keeping our minds open as regards a movie and we are making progress on the musical. Peaky is now a beast that will not die.”

There’s good and bad news for fans of the Irish actor, he’s very interested in making a Peaky Blinders film but he’s going to pass on the musical version of the beloved gangster epic.

“In theory (the film), yeah absolutely if the writing is as good as it is for the show then for sure. But the musical? That’s not for me, I’m going to pass on that one,” he said.

Well, with various reports stating that Season 4 is the best season of Peaky Blinders since the very first one, it’s clear that Steven Knight hasn’t lost his mojo when it comes to telling the story of Birmingham’s most beloved gang. Would we like to see a film adaptation of the superb BBC show? YES! By order of the Peaky Blinders.

Season 4 of the show starts on BBC 2on 15 November at 9pm.
