Marseille terminate Patrice Evra’s contract following ban from European football

Evra also received a fine for the incident

Patrice Evra has been sacked by Marseille.

The development relates to the incident which saw the former Manchester United full-back aim a kick at one of the French club’s supporters prior to a Europa League match with Portuguese club, Vitoria Guimaraes, last week.

Shortly before Marseille confirmed the club had terminated Evra’s contract, it was confirmed the player had been handed a seven-month ban from Uefa competitions, as well as a €10,000 fine.

A statement posted on the club’s website and social media channels then made clear that Evra, who joined the club from Juventus last January, had been released – his contract terminated by mutual consent.
