Over the weekend, various fans, musicians and people from around the world have been paying their respects to AC/DC’s co-founder and guitarist Malcolm Young following the sad news of his death.

Young had been suffering from dementia for a number of years and passed away on Saturday. He was surrounded by his family, the band confirmed in a statement.

Young hasn’t been involved with the band for the past few years few years because he was receiving treatment for dementia. The gifted guitarist was replaced by his nephew Stevie for their last tour.

Given the seismic influence, respect and admiration that the Australian rockers have in the music industry, it’s fitting that various bands and musicians have wanted to pay their respects to Young.

While performing on their Concrete and Gold Tour, the Foo Fighters have regularly cover AC/DC ‘s iconic anthem ‘Let There Be Rock’ and Dave Grohl opened their most recent show at Mexico’s Corona Capitol Festival with the 1977 song.

“Do you love rock and roll!?!?! Tonight, we’re gonna play some rock and roll for you. Tonight, we’re gonna play some rock and roll for Malcolm Young,” he said to the adoring crowd.

Grohl also penned an emotional tribute to AC/DC’s 1980 concert film Let There Be Rock.

“That film, a live AC/DC performance from Paris, 1979, is everything that live and roll should be. Sweaty. Loose. Loud. A relentless performance from the perfect band. It was the first time I lost control to music. The first time I wanted to be in a band. I didn’t want to play my guitar anymore, I wanted to smash it. Thank you, Malcolm, for the songs, and the feel, and the cool, and the years of losing control to your rock and roll. I will do just that tonight, for you,” Grohl wrote.
