Prepare to be hungry

Prepare to be starving.

The Great British Bake Off was amazing – this we know.

And now that our beloved Bake Off is all said and done for another year, it’s hardly surprising that we need another reality baking-based TV show to get us through those cold, winter nights.

So, let me introduce you to Zumbo’s Just Desserts – an Australian baking show… that’s absolutely mad.

The concept of Zumbo’s Just Desserts is simple – contestants show up, bake some desserts, and try to impress the judges.

But they’re also baking in a totally revamped version of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, there are rainbows and steam everywhere, and the vast majority of the desserts don’t actually look edible but hey, they’re probably delicious.

These desserts aren’t just any desserts either – they are Zumbo inspired desserts… and anybody who is familiar with Zumbo’s work (which you absolutely will be once you start watching this show), will know that he is one for the theatrics.

Here are some examples of his fabulous creations all the way from his Instagram page.

There’s this chocolate glazed one.

Not a scone in sight, fellas.

Zumbo doesn’t take any prisoners either.

This guy doesn’t give a shit if you’ve been baking since you were fresh out of the womb, or if your granny who sadly passed away left you her whisk in her will, or if you had to crawl eight miles to the Zumbo baking factory just to take part in the competition.

If your dessert isn’t good enough, you’re going home.

Zumbo’s Just Desserts does have some of the qualities that made us love Bake Off so much too though.

It’s got timers, it’s got challenges, and it’s got people having meltdowns because they forgot to stick their ovens on.

It’s also got a Zumbo bake-off at the end of every episode too, in which the two lower-scoring contestants are forced to recreate one of Zumbo’s mouthwatering (and let’s be honest, a bit mental) desserts.

I won’t spoil too much of the show before you get a chance to get your binge on, but there are gravity-defying chocolate tophats, school desk cakes, and ice-cream themed gobstoppers that actually have avocado inside of them.

Stunning.

Plus, Zumbo’s Just Desserts is now streaming on Netflix so you really don’t have any excuse not to watch the entire first series in one day.

It’s worth it.
