How many of these have you seen?
With films like Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, The Disaster Artist, Bright and Stronger still to be released, it’s clear that 2017 is going out with a bang. This being said, there have been some excellent films released over the last 11 months and as the year closes, everyone’s favourite film magazine, Empire, have released their selections of the year’s best.
It’s no surprise to see Moonlight and La La Land making an appearance – both films dominated the awards season – but much like they did with Hunt for the Wilderpeople in 2016, the renowned film magazine has opted for something a little bit different as their favourite film.
Since being released in March, Jordan Peele’s directorial debut Get Out has grossed $254 million worldwide against its $4.5 million budget. More importantly, the horror film/twisted social satire has become one of the most critically-acclaimed films in recent years.
At present, Get Out has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 99% based on 292 reviews – that’s the highest rated horror film of all time – and it topped Empire’s annual list.
Denis Villeneuve’s sequel to Blade Runner is second and Christopher Nolan’s WWII epic Dunkirk also makes the list.
Here’s Empire’s list in full.
