The only thing worse than having to fight someone is having to fight after being pantsed, as Frankie Saenz found out in Fresno.
UFC bantamweight Frankie Saenz scored a much-needed win against promotional newcomer Merab Dvalishvili in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Saenz edged a razor-close split decision to snap a three-fight losing streak, giving him his first victory in over two years.
The Georgian’s gameplan was simple – take the man down. He scored 11 takedowns throughout the duration of the fight but failed to do any real damage once they were on the ground. Saenz’s ability to land more, particularly in the clinch, saw him earn the nod on two of the judges’ scorecards.
Interestingly, Saenz had to deal with an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction in the first round, which two-thirds of the ringside officials scored in his favour. After being taken down, he tried to scoot his butt towards the fence, but Dvalishvili’s clasped hands meant his shorts fell down revealing his underwear.
Saenz spent the rest of the round with his boxers fully on show. At one point, he tried to pull them back up which prompted commentator Paul Felder to give him some useful advice.
“Don’t worry about your shorts, bro. Worry about getting up, then fix your shorts. There you go!”
Saenz may have heard the man sitting cageside as he immediately forgot about the shorts situation and managed to get back to his feet. The fight continued at the fence, right in front of a row of photographers, who were forced to take snaps of his boxers.
Pay close attention to the dude on the far right. He seemed to be weighing up his life choices before deciding to get one last photo of the fighter’s arse before the round ended.
