Netflix viewers were hooked by this.
In terms of hidden gems that snook up out of nowhere, very few shows could compete with The Sinner. In fact, we were the very first people to highly recommend the murder mystery as its macabre mix of violence, intrigue and twists kept viewers absolutely gripped.
In the mini-series, Jessica Biel plays a young mother who, when overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling act of violence.
The event launches an inverted and utterly surprising crime thriller whose driving force is not the “who” or the “what” — but the “why” — as an investigator (Bill Pullman) finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman’s buried motive. Together they travel a harrowing journey into the depths of her psyche and the violent secrets hidden in her past.
After finding a massive audience and momentum on Netflix, we were not surprised to see Biel being nominated for a Golden Globe for best actress in a miniseries.
In an interview with EW, the actress gave a positive update regarding a second series of the critically acclaimed show.
“It’s a really good question. We are really hoping to hear soon if we get to come back or not. Initially, the show was genuinely conceived as a limited series so it was a surprise to us as well that, with the amazing viewership and the incredible journey that this show has taken, it was even a possibility to come back. Even getting over that has been interesting. But now that it is a possibility, we are really diving deeply with our creative team, our writers’ room.,” said Biel.
She adds: “We’re hoping to set it up and see if we can come up with some amazing and interesting stories. If we get to come back, we’re starting fresh again. I will definitely be involved in some way! I hope somebody writes me into the show, if we can figure it out. We will figure it out if it’s possible, but we want to be authentic to the show. We want to do what’s right for the show as opposed to what’s right for me.”
If you’ve seen the eight-part series then you’ll know that there are a few lingering questions. Then again, would you prefer to see a new murder mystery unraveling?
Either way, we’re 100% on board for this team to start work on another season.
