If Ross Turner hadn’t been dismounted at Wetherby, who knows what would have happened.
There was a horrible incident at the 3:20 at Wetherby on Boxing Day.
Georgian Firebird clipped the fence and went tumbling. The horse did a full barrel roll on the ground with jockey Danny Cook still on top.
Once the horse went down, it took out Ross Turner on Jacarno which cleared the fence a split second after. Turner became unseated, but when Georgian Firebird stood back up, Cook was still hanging helplessly off it as his leg became stuck in the irons.
Fortunately, Turner spotted the worrying situation and immediately sprinted towards his race rival. He showed amazingly quick-thinking to keep the horse still until the track officials came to help the dangling jockey.
Check out the fantastic moment of sportsmanship in the video embedded below.
Some quick thinking from Ross Turner, who rushes to Danny Cook's aid with the jockey left with one foot stuck in the irons after their fall at Wetherby.
