This will be essential TV.
Given the fact that Game of Thrones is a pop-culture phenomenon, it’s standard practice that every little piece of casting and production news is reported. On that note, Thrones fans were absolutely delighted to hear that Miguel Sapochnik was returning to direct two episodes in the final season.
In case you’re not familiar with his work, he’s the man that’s responsible for Hardhome, Battle of the Bastards and The Winds of Winter – three episodes that are widely regarded as the finest episodes in TV history.
Well, murder mystery fans will be hoping that Sapochnik’s wonderful ability to balance jaw-dropping visuals, adrenaline-pumping action, and epic narrative will continue when he kicks-off Netflix’s new murder mystery, Altered Carbon.
Truth be told, we’ve had our eye on this show for quite some time now and the latest trailer has just been released.
Speaking about what fans can expect, Laeta Kalogridis, the show’s producer, said that it’s aiming to replicate the tone of Logan while including plenty of twists and turns.
“The complexity of the story requires — as noir often does — to make something that’s an extremely twisty murder mystery, but it also had to be hard-R tonally. And a hard-R sci-fi movie usually is something like Logan, for example, where you’re building out a piece of a franchise,” she said.
Having seen the trailer, it’s clear that there are strong elements of Blade Runner, Black Mirror, The Matrix and the Ghost in the Shell anime at work here.
The first season of Altered Carbon will consist of ten episodes and if Sapochnik can start the new show with an episode that’s half as good as The Battle of the Bastards, you might be instantly hooked.
Altered Carbon premieres on February 2nd, 2018.
