I mean, it’s KFC gravy, so you have to give it a go.
Who among us doesn’t love a good cocktail?
You got your gin, you got your fruit, you got your vodka, your whiskey, your ice, your rum, your lemon, your lime, your assortment of other alcohols that you may as well add in for good measure.
One thing, however, we had never considered adding into our cocktails was gravy.
For obvious reasons.
Gravy is traditionally meant for pouring generously over your Sunday roast, or dipping chips into, or accidentally leaving out on the table for hours until it forms that horrendous skin on top that makes you want to give up.
Despite all this though, KFC has decided to launch a range of gravy cocktails… and who are we judge?
The restaurant chain recently introduced three finger lickin’ good gravy cocktails that are an absolute necessity for your next pre-drinks… maybe.
There’s the Gravy Mary – a more modern and thick version of the iconic Bloody Mary including hot sauce, tomato juice, vodka and, of course, gravy.
There’s the Finger Lickin’ Sour – a somewhat questionable take on the whiskey sour that contains everything from your whiskey to your cherry liqueur to your 100ml of KFC gravy.
And, last but certainly not least, there’s the Southern Twist – because what’s a gravy cocktail menu without a bit of bourbon-based inspiration from the south?
KFC’s, ahem, advert for these concoctions suggests that a good drink may need good liquor, but “… a great drink needs gravy.”
Can’t argue with that.
Now, you may or may not have guessed that these drinks are clearly not going to be available in any actual KFC restaurants.
Instead, the lads have provided a few easy-to-make recipes so you can enjoy these drinks in the comfort of your own home.
Lovely.
To make your own (questionable) delicious gravy cocktails, simply follow the steps for each below.
The Gravy Mary
Put paprika, celery, salt, horseradish, hot sauce & Worcester sauce in a cocktail mixer. Add vodka (optional), lemon juice, tomato juice & KFC Gravy.
Throw cocktail between two mixers. Pour over ice into a highball. Garnish with celery & KFC popcorn chicken.
The Finger Lickin’ Sour
Combine 4 parts mezcal to 1 part KFC gravy in a jar. Shake and freeze for 3 hours. Pour 50ml of the gravy-infused mezcal into the cocktail shaker.
Add egg white, cherry liqueur, lemon juice, orange marmalade, salt & pepper. Shake well and pour into a coupette. Garnish with lemon thyme.
