“Fu**king A! You gotta take a side.”
After a film finishes, there’s something special about a feature that leaves you thinking about it for ages even after the credits have rolled. The Usual Suspects. Fight Club, Se7en, The Mist, and Memento are just some examples of this but in recent years, very few films have stirred as much debate as Gone Baby Gone.
As stated previously, we’re massive fans of Ben Affleck’s directorial debut and in the ten years since its release, film fans are still divided over its ending.
In the film, two Boston detectives (played by Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan) investigate a little girl’s kidnapping, which ultimately turns into a crisis both professionally and personally.
Based on Dennis Lehane’s ’98 book of the same name, Gone Baby Gone went on to receive an Oscar nomination and another 34 wins. The film hasn’t lost any of its power or poignancy and it continues to find new fans.
Regarding the new TV show, Fox has picked up a pilot based on Lehane’s book and Robert Levine (Black Sails, Touch, Human Target, Judging Amy) will pen the script and executive produce the untitled project.
Lehane will also be an exec producer on the untitled drama, which revolves around private detectives Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro who, armed with their wits and street knowledge, right the wrongs that the law can’t in a working-class Boston borough of Dorchester.
If the TV show turns out to be even half as good as the film, we’re in for a treat.
