Given the recent trend of magnificent music documentaries like Amy, Supersonic and Twenty Feet From Stardom, it’s fitting that another rousing series would find its way to Netflix and the online streaming giant have announced that they will be showing HBO’s critically acclaimed series, The Defiant Ones.Â
Set amid many of the defining events of the past four decades, this four-part documentary event tells the stories of Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, their improbable partnership and their leading roles in a series of transformative events in contemporary culture. Directed by Allen Hughes, who conducted extensive interviews with both men, the series also includes interviews with such music icons as Bono, David Geffen, Eminem, Nas, Stevie Nicks, Ice Cube, Gwen Stefani, Jon Landau, Tom Petty, Trent Reznor, Snoop Dogg, Bruce Springsteen, Diddy and will.i.am.
The documentary series will also feature never-before-seen footage from a multitude of recording and writing sessions with Eazy-E, JJ Fad, Stevie Nicks, N.W.A., Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and U2, among others.
Since being released in the U.S, the documentary has a flawless reputation with critics and currently holds an 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes but more importantly, 76% on Metacritic.
In their review, The LA Times stressed that The Defiant Ones feels very different to any other music documentary. “It’s the decades of struggle and successes leading up to that point that make this four-part series stand out in the crowded field of music docs,” they said.
The Defiant Ones will arrive on March 23rd and it’s essential for any music fan.
