People that were addicted to Netflix’s documentary will be watching this.
Production has begun on Convicting a Murderer, described as a follow-up to Netflix’s Emmy-nominated docuseries Making a Murderer, from documentary filmmaker Shawn Rech (A Murder In The Park).
What’s unique to this project though is that it will focus on the controversial case that’s built by the State of Wisconsin against Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach. In the documentary, Rech will work with District Attorney Ken Kratz, Lead Investigator Tom Fassbender, and other major players in State v. Avery case.
Rech will direct the eight-episode series and it’s bound to interest anyone that followed Making A Murderer.
In the Netflix documentary, police were accused of tampering with crime scenes, coercing confessions during the interrogation process and planting evidence to manipulate the investigation in a bid to implicate Avery of the murder.
Speaking about the documentary, Rech said: “When Making A Murderer was produced, many on the law enforcement side of the story could not, or would not, participate in the series, which resulted in a one-sided analysis of the case. This docuseries will examine the case and the allegations of police wrongdoing from a broader perspective. It will also share with viewers the traumatic effects of being found guilty and vilified in the court of public opinion.”
A few months ago, Netflix announced the second season of Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi’s documentary but this new show isn’t affiliated with the online streaming giant.
