So, Drake does pen his own lyrics.
If you’re a fan of Drake’s pen game then it looks like you’re going to be able to own a piece of the rapper’s early work if you’re willing to fork over $54k.
Discovered over a decade ago, a rare notebook belonging to Drake featuring some handwritten lyrics is now up for auction on the Moments in Time website.
The lyrics date back to 2002 when the Toronto native was an actor on the Canadian sitcom Degrassi: The Next Generation. Featuring around 12 pages of unreleased lyrics, the site auctioning the notebook vouches for its authenticity because of signatures that use Drake’s real name, Aubrey Graham.
One of the pages includes a song titled “10 Mack Commandments”, a reworking of Biggie’s famous DJ Premier-produced “Ten Crack Commandments” – this is the same song Drake lifted his signature ‘6’ tag from.
According to Gary Zimet, the owner of the Moments in Time, the notebook was found in Drake’s grandfather’s Toronto furniture factory and was almost thrown out.
TMZ obtained some of the pages from the book. These can be viewed here.
