Wherever you are during this snowy attack by the Beast from the East, we hope that you’re safe, snug and in front of a TV with a nice cup of tea. This being said, there are always some poor folk that get stuck in the middle of nowhere due to the conditions and on this note, Netflix’s latest addition is absolutely perfect during this cold snap.
Well, it’s the perfect example of why everyone should stay indoors and never leave…ever…EVER!
2017 was undoubtedly the year of Stephen King as we saw adaptations of The Dark Tower, IT Part 1: The Loser’s Club, Gerald’s Game, Mr. Mercedes and The Mist were just some of the King adaptations that hit our screens, but how many of those won an Oscar?
While Get Out is the latest horror/thriller to win critical adulation, Misery is still regarded as one of the finest horror films of all time and it’s easy to see why.

In case you haven’t seen Rob Reiner’s film yet then you’re in luck because it hasn’t aged at all. Unlike other horror films that might be rooted in the supernatural or ‘topical horror’ like the torture porn of Saw or the found-footage aesthetic of The Blair Witch Project, Misery is far scarier because it’s entirely believable.
In the film, James Caan plays Paul Sheldon, a writer that’s at a career crossroads as he looks to complete his latest novel which is a stylistic break away from his popular series of novels featuring the character Misery Chastain.
After getting  into a severe car accident, Sheldon is saved by Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), a reclusive woman who nurses him back to health. Annie is a huge fan of the Misery novels and she finishes reading the new one while Paul is convalescing. She becomes enraged after discovering that Paul has killed off Misery. What unfolds is one of the most claustrophobic, tense and nail-biting horrors that you’ll ever see.
It also helps that the film features one of the most horrific moments that has ever been committed to film. We won’t ruin the terrifying treat, but fans of the film will know exactly what we’re talking about.
Aside from an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a regular place on the list of ‘Best Horrors of All Time,’ it’s still the only Stephen king adaptation that has won an Oscar.
After watching her terrifying performance, you’ll know exactly why Kathy Bates won the Best Actress.
If you’re looking for something to watch while you’e snowed in, Misery is excellent.
