Having had one of the most high-profile weddings of the last century herself, Kate Middleton knows a thing or two about royal nuptials
But while she’ll no doubt be there if Meghan Markle seeks some advice ahead of her own big day next month, it’s been revealed that Kate will take a backseat for the occasion.
Meghan and Prince Harry are set to wed on 19 May and given that Kate, who is due to give birth any day now, will have a newborn on her hands, the couple aren’t putting pressure on her to be in the wedding.
“Frankly, Harry and Meghan are just happy that Kate will be there given she will only just have given birth,” a source told Vanity Fair.
“They have told her there is no pressure on her to do anything, they just want her to enjoy the day. They know Kate will have her hands full.”
The duchess could well be looking after Prince George and Princess Charlotte for the day.
It’s reported that Meghan and Harry want the little ones to be a page boy and flower girl for their ceremony, just as they were for their aunt Pippa Middleton when she married James Matthews last summer.
Also expected to be a flower girl on the day is Meghan’s friend Jessica Mulroney’s daughter Ivy.
Jessica herself has been tipped for the role of maid of honour but Kensington Palace has remained tight-lipped about these details, saying that we’ll learn more in due course.
