The Internet are back and there are no complaints over here about it.
Releasing their first new song as a collective since 2015’s Grammy-nominated, and undeniably stellar, album Ego Death, The Internet are back to enrich our lives once again with more musical goodness.
They might have kept our tastebuds wet last year with solo projects from members Syd, Matt Martians and Steve Lacy, but the reality is nothing is as good as new music from the band as a complete unit.
Titled “Roll (Burbank Funk)”, the funked out jam plays like a ’70s Earth Wind & Fire joint designed for the rollerskating rink or the Soul Train line, it’s all bounce, rock and skate on this one.
Written and produced by The Internet, the song features guitarist Steve Lacy dueting with frontwoman Syd and it’s the stuff euphoric excellence is made off. It’s as if a piece of cloud was picked off from heaven like candy floss and digested in the presence of funk legends such a Parliament Funkadellic, Brick or Rick James.
