JOE’s 5-Word Transfers: Sterling, Walcott, Cleverley, Depay, Alves

Simon Lloyd

Sterling for Walcott

Since Raheem Sterling’s rather confusing interview last week, speculation has been rife that ‘the kid who just loves to play football’ will be seeking pastures new over the summer.

According to the Daily Star, Arsenal are willing to part with £20m and Theo Walcott to bring Sterling to the Emirates, which doesn’t look a terrible deal to us.

Cleverley set for Martinez reunion

Roberto Martinez is still keen on bringing Tom Cleverley to Everton, according to The Guardian.

After a forgettable season at Manchester United last year, Cleverley has been loaned to Aston Villa this year where he has failed to make a telling impact.

That apparently hasn’t put off Martinez, though, who is said to have put Cleverley – who he previously worked with at Wigan – at the top of his summer shopping list.

Memphis Depay set to leave PSV

According to the Daily Mail, 21-year-old Dutch international Memphis Depay will leave PSV Eindhoven at the end of the season.

Depay, like every member of the 2014 Dutch World Cup squad, has been linked with a reunion with Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

Spurs have also been mentioned as potential suitors, however, and may try to steal a march on their Premier League rivals.

Alves rejects Barcelona contract offer

With Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United reportedly interested in his signature, Dani Alves has turned down Barcelona’s final offer of a three-year contract, according to AS.com.

A move now looks likely for the right-back and, judging by his recent efforts at launching a career in music, it’s probably best if someone keeps him playing football a while longer.
