UFC fighter knocks himself out in absolutely spectacular fashion

He was winning the fight up until then

Jarred Brooks will be kicking himself after UFC Utica.

The UFC Utica curtain-jerker between Jarred Brooks and Jose Torres ended with a bang.

There was a lot of hype surrounding Torres prior to his promotional debut. ‘Shorty’ entered into the bout as an undefeated two-weight world champion in Titan FC. He’s 25, held the Titan FC flyweight and bantamweight belts and had a combined amateur and professional record of 15-0 heading into the fight against ‘the Monkey God’. However, it was Brooks who looked set to spoil the coming out party.

Brooks won the opening round comfortably. He dropped Torres with a spinning backfist and controlled the pace of the fight. After putting Torres down, Brooks immediately went on the offensive, trying submission attempts, takedowns and having the better of the exchanges on the feet.

Torres came into the fight more in the second. That being said, he found himself in what looked like a very tough spot when Brooks picked him up for a slam. Remarkably, Brooks landed head-first, essentially knocking himself out.

Quickly realising what had happened, Torres pounced. He landed some more strikes until the fight was waved off at the 3:55 mark. Torres talked about the mid-air adjustment he made in his Octagon interview with Jon Anik.

“He hit a big slam, used a lot of energy. He let me get parallel, I let him get off centre, he knocked himself out and I put myself in the big power position.”

The result sees Torres improve to 8-0 while Brooks (13-2) dropped his second consecutive fight.
