Loris Karius is set to keep his place in Liverpool’s first team for next season

He has had to bounce back from a nightmare Champions League final in May

It was assumed that he was finished at Liverpool

The Champions League final feels like an age ago, with the wall to wall football that the World Cup has provided us, but it was only six weeks ago and will still feel fresh in the mind of Loris Karius.

The Liverpool goalkeeper had a night to forget in Kiev as he made two sloppy mistakes, gifting Real Madrid two goals that secured their third Champions League trophy in a row.

It had all the makings of a performance from which not even the most talented goalkeepers could bounce back. A fresh start seemed inevitable. And so Liverpool began their search for a new goalkeeper. But attempts to sign Roma goalkeeper Alisson ended in failure after the Italian club demanded £80m for the Brazilian.

It seems as though Jurgen Klopp has given up on his search for a new goalkeeper, as the Liverpool Echo report that Loris Karius will be Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper for the upcoming 2018/19 season.

Karius will need a warm reception when he returns to the field at Anfield after his nightmare in Kiev. And it seems like Liverpool fans are willing to welcome him back with open arms.
