Jurgen Klopp’s first press conference as Liverpool manager was the perfect opportunity for the German to make a great impression with fans and media alike.
The former Dortmund boss has arrived on a three-year deal following Brendan Rodgers’ departure.
He was quizzed on matters such as the transfer committee, the famous Anfield atmosphere, and Liverpool’s quest for a first title since 1990.
Here are some of the highlights:
On the transfer committee
“Not a problem, we talked about it for 10 seconds… I have the first and the last word on transfers.”
On his time out since leaving Dortmund
“I am absolutely relaxed, I had a four-month holiday and I’m in the best shape”
On Liverpool’s history
“History is only the base for us. You can’t carry it in your backpack every day.”
On his first impression of the club
“The first time I came here (with Dortmund) I wondered what it would be like (to manage this club). I am a lucky guy.”
On getting settled into the new role
“I want to see the first step next week”
On ending Liverpool’s league drought
“I don’t say we have to wait 20 years, in 4 years I hope to win one title.”
On the famous Anfield atmosphere
“We will try to start very emotional football as I think this is important at Anfield. First you need to have the best atmosphere in the world and then you play”
On dealing with the media in England
“Everyone has told me about the British press so it’s up to you to show me that they are all liars.”
On comparisons with Jose Mourinho’s ‘Special One’ speech
“I am the normal one”
"How would you describe yourself?" #TheNormalOnehttp://t.co/0YnXR3e2lp#KloppLFChttps://t.co/HrmDFgMSTA
