Since moving to Manchester City from Valencia, David Silva has been a key part in the club’s success.
Although the Spaniard has achieved enough to be considered a City legend, it’s now emerged that Manchester’s other club were also very interested in signing him.
Speaking to SiriusXM in New York, former manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that United monitored Silva during his time at Valencia but eventually opted not to move for him.
“We watched Silva a lot when he was at Valencia,” Ferguson explained.
“My problem with that was you have to be very, very good to play in that position, because there’s no defensive duties for them.
“So if you’re wanting to be be really successful, everyone has to do their turn, has to work, you know?”
Although such a trophy-laden career is sure to leave Sir Alex Ferguson with few regrets, watching Silva’s role in Manchester City’s recent triumphs will surely have been difficult for the Scot.
